A report by StatiSense, a global data and business intelligence platform, has revealed a significant trend in Nigerian internet usage. In June 2024, over 162 million visits to porn and betting websites were recorded, with two pornographic websites, Xvideos and Xnxx, securing second and sixth places respectively in the list of most visited websites by Nigerians.
The data further shows that sports betting sites Sportybet and Bet9ja received a combined 83.1 million visits, demonstrating the growing popularity of online gambling in the country.
This revelation comes at a time when Nigeria is experiencing an increase in internet usage, with an estimated 122.5 million internet users as of January 2023. The country’s large population and growing digital connectivity have created a fertile ground for online activities, with search engines, social media platforms, and adult content sites emerging as some of the most frequented destinations.
