The Civil Liberties Organisation (CLO) has threatened to sue the Federal Government over 14 months of unpaid salaries to Nigerian immigration officers abroad, warning of security risks and hardship for affected families.

The Civil Liberties Organisation (CLO) has threatened to take legal action against the Federal Government over the non-payment of salaries to Nigerian immigration officers serving abroad, saying the arrears have stretched for 14 months.

Speaking in Jos on Thursday, CLO Executive Director Steve Aluko described the situation as “unfortunate,” criticising the government for neglecting its obligations despite claiming to have met revenue targets.
“Owing immigration officers on foreign mission for 14 months brings a lot of harshness, a lot of trouble, dysfunction in their family life, and it leads to loss of property and loss of livelihood in some instances,” Aluko said.

He warned of security risks, stressing that unpaid officers could become vulnerable to “possible international espionage.” Aluko added that CLO might write the National Assembly and pursue the case in court if the government fails to act.

He urged immediate intervention, saying officers’ welfare must be treated as a “national interest.”
