Kurfi leaders and bandit commanders on Thursday signed a peace agreement in Wurma Forest, Katsina State, to end years of killings and kidnappings.

Community leaders in Kurfi Local Government Area of Katsina State have signed a peace agreement with bandit commanders to end years of killings, kidnappings, and cattle rustling.

The peace meeting, held Thursday inside Wurma Forest, was led by Maradin Katsina and District Head of Kurfi, Alhaji Mansur Amadu Kurfi, and council chairman Hon. Babangida Abdullahi Kurfi.

“This is a step for the progress of our community. We have chosen peace,” the district head said, urging bandits to appoint traditional heads for accountability.

Bandit leaders, including Alhaji Usman Kachalla Ruga and Sani Muhindinge, pledged to drop arms and allow farmers safe access to farmlands. “From today, we drop our weapons of violence. We want peace,” they declared.

The council chairman hailed the deal as the beginning of lasting peace, promising to rehabilitate schools and hospitals.

Kurfi becomes the fifth LGA in Katsina to reach such an agreement, after Jibia, Batsari, Safana, and Danmusa.
