Court remands pastor for allegedly killing his tenant in Ondo

A magistrates’ court sitting in Akure, the Ondo State capital, on Thursday, ordered the remand of a 56-year-old pastor, identified as Emmanuel Adebayo, over the alleged murder of a 50-year-old woman, Toyin Olatunji.

Emmanuel Adebayo, a pastor in a Christ Apostolic Church, CAC, was arrested in his residence in connection with his tenant’s death.

Abdulateef Suliaman, the prosecutor, told the court that the defendant committed the offence on the 4th of April 2023, at No.14 Moferere Street Owe-Akala, Akure, at about 3 pm.

The prosecutor said a quarrel ensued between the duo and out of anger, the defendant unlawfully killed the woman by pushing her to the floor. The defendant became unconscious and later died.

Sulaiman added that the offence contravenes Sections 310 and 316 of the Criminal Code, Laws of Ondo, 2006.

The prosecutor urged the court to remand the defendant in correctional custody, pending the issuance of advice from the Director of Public Prosecutions, DPP.
