BRT driver’s trial for rape and murder adjourned in Lagos

BNN BREAKING

In a recent court session in Lagos, Nigeria, a request was made for additional time to file a no-case submission for Andrew Ominikoron, a Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) driver facing severe charges. The charges, laid by the Lagos State Government, include rape, conspiracy, felony, sexual assault, and murder. Ominikoron, accused of multiple crimes, including the rape and murder of 22-year-old fashion designer Oluwabamise Ayanwole, has pleaded not guilty to all charges.

Accusations and Background

Andrew Ominikoron, known as a BRT driver in Lagos, stands accused of a series of serious crimes. The most prominent of these charges stems from the incident that occurred on February 26, 2022, where Ominikoron is alleged to have raped and killed Oluwabamise Ayanwole, a budding 22-year-old fashion designer. In addition to this, Ominikoron has also been charged with the rape of a 29-year-old woman in November 2021 and the sexual harassment of another woman in December 2021. All the charges brought against him contradict sections of the Lagos State Criminal Law, 2015.

The Case Proceedings

During the most recent court session, Abayomi Omotubora, Ominikoron’s lawyer, sought additional time to file a no-case submission. This move indicates a defense argument that the prosecution’s evidence is insufficient to warrant a conviction. The court, in response, has adjourned the case until February 8 to allow for the filing.
