The Federal High Court in Ibadan issued an order on Wednesday for the remand of a woman and two men for their involvement in the Bodija explosion on January 16 in Ibadan.
The police brought charges against Ramatu Camara, 47, Ganiu Malik, 20, and Abubakar Samasa, 64, including conspiracy, use, proliferation, and stockpiling of weapons of mass destruction, as well as dispersal of biological weapons.
The defendants pleaded not guilty to the charges.
Justice E.U. Akpan directed that they be remanded in the Agodi custodial center and adjourned the case until April 11 for the hearing of their bail applications.
During the proceedings, the police prosecutor, Mr. Michael Ojeah, informed the court that Camara, Malik, and Samasa were facing a five-count charge. He explained that the defendants, along with others, allegedly committed the crime around 7:30 pm on January 16 at Aderinola of Dejo-Oyelese Street, Adeyi Avenue, Old Bodija, Ibadan, Oyo State.
Ojeah stated that the defendants stored radioactive materials inside a building, which exploded, resulting in the death of a 65-year-old woman named Bolanle Badmus and 13 others.
He expressed readiness to present his case, but the defense counsel, Mr. Adeola Adebayo, requested a brief adjournment to file some applications.
According to the prosecutor, the offense violates the provisions of sections 26, 42 (A) and (B), 43(1) (A) and (2) (C) 1 (A) 58 (1) (A) of the Terrorism, Prohibition and Prevention Act 2022. (NAN)
