The Lagos Police Command has conducted a raid on a house located in the Agege area of the state, uncovering a clandestine operation involved in the production of counterfeit alcoholic beverages.
According to Benjamin Hundeyin, spokesperson for the Lagos police, in a statement released on Thursday, four individuals were apprehended in connection with the illicit distillery.
“Officers of Isokoko Division, acting on credible information, raided a house in Agege where fake alcoholic drinks were being produced,” the statement reads.
“The police arrested four people behind the illegal distillery, and recovered fake drinks, empty bottles, and labels of different brands. Investigation is ongoing.”
This recent raid adds to the ongoing efforts to crackdown on individuals engaged in the production of counterfeit beverages across the nation.
In December 2023, police conducted a similar raid on a decrepit building in the Ojo axis of Lagos, which was being utilized as a factory for manufacturing fake drinks. During the operation, two suspects were apprehended.
This crackdown follows the discovery of over 240 shops in the bustling Cemetery market in Abia, where adulterated beverages were being mass-produced for commercial purposes.
