University Of Port Harcourt debunks video showing lecturer sexually harassing female student in office

The university authorities while dismissing the video as fake, noted that no such incident happened at the university, adding that the Microbiology department was located in a three-storey building.

The University of Port-Harcourt (UNIPORT) Rivers State, has described as fake a video trending on social media platforms indicating that one of its lecturers had been caught on camera sexually harassing a female student in his office.

The university authorities while dismissing the video as fake, noted that no such incident happened at the university, adding that the Microbiology department was located in a three-storey building.

An X (formerly Twitter) handle bearing Portharcourt Specials with account @phspecials had shared a 47-second video showing a man and a young lady in close proximity. At one point the man in the video tried to touch the private parts of the female student and pulled her to his body but the lady appeared not reciprocating.

@phspecials however, tagged the video: “University of Port Harcourt lecturer caught in HD camera reportedly s£xually hara$$ing a female student in his office.”

When SaharaReporters reached out to the Public Relations Officer of the University of Port-Harcourt (UNIPORT), Dr Sam Kpenu, for a reaction he described the video as fake and misrepresentation.

He said that the video was released by Rivers State University TV, noting that it was erroneous to attribute the video to the UNIPORT.

Kpenu said: “If you look at the video, the video was released by the Rivers State University TV – RSUTV Video. If you look at the video you will see the inscription RSUTV. So it has nothing to do with the University of Port-Harcourt.

“It is purely misrepresentation and then our faculty of Microbiology, Department of Microbiology is upstairs but if you look at the video you can see outside with grasses. So our microbiology is upstairs, it is in three three-story building upstairs, so we don’t have such a thing in our university.

“That’s why we are not in a hurry to respond to the video. It is the Rivers State University TV that released that, so that thing did not happen at the University of Port-Harcourt. The video is fake and was released by the Rivers State University TV. We never recorded such an incident in our university.”

Meanwhile, SaharaReporters’ efforts to speak with the Rivers State University were unsuccessful as the Public Relations Officer of the institution could not be reached at the time of filing this report.
