Spain-based businessman arrested at Lagos Airport with Cocaine in Sandals

A Spain-based businessman, Francis Akajiobi, was arrested by National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) operatives at the departure hall of terminal 2, Murtala Muhammed International Airport (MMIA), Ikeja Lagos.

He was detained after 1.20 kilograms of cocaine were found in his sandals while he was trying to board a Royal Air Maroc flight to Madrid, Spain.

NDLEA spokesman Femi Babafemi stated on Sunday that the cocaine was hidden in the soles of Akajiobi’s black sandals, which were intercepted by the agency’s operatives on Thursday, July 25, 2024.

During a preliminary interview, Akajiobi claimed that he received the consignment at a bar in Port Harcourt, Rivers State, and was to deliver it to a friend and neighbor in Spain for a fee of €5,000.

In a related development, Babafemi reported the arrest of Makinde Sodiq Lekan in connection with the seizure of 99 parcels of Canadian Loud, a synthetic strain of cannabis weighing 51.60kg, which arrived at the SAHCO Imports shed of Lagos airport on a Turkish Airlines flight from Canada via Istanbul, Turkey.
