FCT police deny involvement in teenager’s death during Kubwa protest

The Federal Capital Territory Commissioner of Police, Bennett Igweh, has stated that his officers were not responsible for the death of a teenager in the Kubwa area of the FCT.

In a viral video, a man claimed that the police shot dead a teenager while dispersing protesters in Kubwa.

However, the FCT command spokesperson, Josephine Adeh, clarified in a statement on Saturday that the officers deployed to the area were not equipped with lethal arms.

She said, “In response to the video footage circulating that alleges the killing of an unidentified teenager by police officers in Kubwa near Zenith Bank during a protest on August 3, 2024, the FCT police command refutes these allegations. Our operatives are not responsible for the teenager’s death, as they were only issued anti-riot equipment, not lethal arms.”

She added that the Commissioner of Police, angered by the incident, has ordered an investigation to determine the cause of the teenager’s death.
