Troops neutralise 147, apprehend 381 suspects in 1 week – DHQ

The Nigerian military neutralized 147 terrorists, apprehended 381 suspects, and rescued 113 kidnapped hostages across the country over the past week.

This information was disclosed by Maj.-Gen. Edward Buba, the Director of Defence Media Operations, during a briefing on Thursday in Abuja.

Buba reported that the troops recovered 74 assorted weapons and 3,498 rounds of ammunition, including a dushka, an RPG bomb, an RPG charger, 42 AK47 rifles, 10 fabricated rifles, and 13 Dane guns.

“Also recovered were one FN rifle, one revolver pistol, one locally made pistol, 27 magazines, an AK47 dummy rifle, an AK47 top cover, and a Baofeng radio,” he said.

Additional recovered items included 288 rounds of RG55 ammunition, 40 rounds of CJ95 ammunition, 2,466 rounds of 7.62mm special ammunition, 470 rounds of 7.62mm NATO, 73 rounds of 7.62 x 54mm, and 112 rounds of 7.62x39mm.

“Troops also seized 42 live cartridges, six vehicles, 32 motorcycles, and eight mobile phones, among other items,” Buba added.

During the week, 147 terrorists were neutralized, and 381 individuals were arrested. The troops also apprehended 23 oil theft perpetrators and rescued 113 kidnapped hostages.

In the North East, Buba said that troops from Operation Hadin Kai neutralized 81 terrorists, arrested 52 suspects, and rescued 34 kidnapped hostages.

Additionally, 94 terrorists, including 19 adult males, 26 adult females, and 49 children, surrendered to the troops within the operational theater.

In the North Central region, troops from Operations Safe Haven and Whirl Stroke neutralized 17 insurgents, arrested 101 violent extremists, and rescued 23 kidnapped hostages during the week.
