A Nigerian pilot, Olukayode Ojo, 36, is facing up to five years in prison after being convicted in Texas for making false declarations in his bid to secure a pilot’s certification from the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA).
U.S. District Judge Jodi Dishman ordered Ojo to remain in custody following the guilty verdict, which was delivered on August 16, 2024.
The case, prosecuted by U.S. Attorney Robert Troester, revealed that Ojo had falsified information on his application for an FAA First Class Medical Certificate—a critical requirement for flying commercial passenger aircraft.
The investigation, led by the Transportation Security Administration (TSA), found that Ojo had a history of legal issues. In February 2023, he pleaded guilty to two misdemeanor theft charges for stealing passenger luggage at the Cincinnati/Northern Kentucky International Airport. Despite these convictions, Ojo submitted false statements to the FAA in March 2023 and March 2024 to conceal his past..
