A bear was killed in New Jersey after twice entering a Dollar General store, injuring a 90-year-old woman and attacking a dog.

Authorities in Vernon Township, New Jersey, killed a black bear after it entered a Dollar General store twice this week, injuring a customer and attacking a dog. Police said the bear first entered the store around 1:39 p.m. Tuesday before being driven out. Less than three hours later, the animal attacked a dog, chased two employees at a nearby restaurant, and reentered the Dollar General, where it injured a 90-year-old woman.

“The bear tackled my dog, but he didn’t even bite my dog — no scratch marks, nothing,” said Aaron Glading, the restaurant’s owner. Another shopper, 65-year-old real estate agent Sean Clarkin, guided the bear out. “Getting the bear out of the store seemed like the thing to do,” he told the New York Times.

Officers later killed the 175-pound female bear in the parking lot, following state wildlife guidelines. The woman was treated at a hospital, while the dog was taken to a veterinarian. Officials are testing the bear for rabies.
