The Edo State Government has launched a manhunt for suspects involved in the killing of northern travelers in Uromi, Esan North East Local Government Area. Governor Monday Okpebholo, in response to the tragic incident, ordered the immediate suspension of all illegal vigilante groups operating in the state, as well as the suspension of the Commander of the Edo State Security Corps, CP Friday Ibadin (Rtd.). According to a statement from the Secretary to the State Government, Musa Ikhilor, the vigilante group implicated in the killings was unregistered and unauthorized. He emphasized that their actions do not align with the principles of the Okpebholo administration or the objectives of the state’s security framework.
Authorities have confirmed that 14 suspects have been arrested in connection with the attack, while a special team set up by the Inspector General of Police is intensifying efforts to apprehend other perpetrators. “Investigations into the killings are ongoing, and fourteen (14) persons have been arrested so far,” Ikhilor stated. He assured that the government is in touch with the families of the victims and the Kano State Government, urging calm as justice is pursued transparently. The Edo State Government reiterated its commitment to upholding citizens’ rights to free movement and lawful business activities while ensuring those responsible for the killings are brought to justice.
