Rob Holding’s Arsenal stint
Arsenal’s 2020/21 was fairly average overall, only securing an 8th placed finish in the Premier League.
Despite this, the Gunners would finish the campaign with a fairly impressive defensive record, conceding the 3rd fewest goals of all 20 PL cubs – only behind Manchester City and Chelsea.
Rob Holding would play a key part in this, featuring 30 times for the Gunners in the league.
Holding staying put
Arsenal have since signed Ben White from Brighton, and whilst they have loaned out William Saliba, Mikel Arteta does have something of a surplus at centre-back.
Holding, Gabriel, Pablo Mari and White are all competing for a centre-back spot, whilst Calum Chambers can also play there despite being used largely as a right-back of late.
So, Arsenal parting ways with one of the aforementioned players this summer would not seem like the craziest thing in the world – especially when their 8th place finish in 2020/21 means they have no European football to contend with this year.
One player who has been touted for a potential departure is Rob Holding.
Holding was heavily linked with a move to Newcastle United last summer, and those rumours began to crop up once again this month.
However, football.london reporter Chris Wheatley has since moved to put those rumours to bed, stating that the 25-year-old remains focused on the new season with Arsenal and is set to stay at the club.
They too mention rumours of interest from Newcastle and also Leicester City…
