Jamie Vardy has been selected to start his first midweek match of the season with Leicester City naming an unchanged side to take on Southampton.
Vardy has so far been left out of the starting line-up for the five Europa League and two Carabao Cup fixtures this season to preserve his energy, but Brendan Rodgers has opted for the number nine to lead the line on the south coast.
City have Patson Daka and Kelechi Iheanacho among the substitutes should they wish to bring Vardy off. Before that, Rodgers will hope the selection pays off with more goals for the 34-year-old, who added two to his tally at the weekend to close down Mo Salah at the top of the Premier League’s scoring charts.
Elsewhere, Rodgers has chosen to stick with the side that beat Watford, so the 4-2-3-1 shape with Harvey Barnes and Ademola Lookman wide remains.
James Maddison, after five goal involvements in his last two outings, will support Vardy, with Boubakary Soumare and Wilfred Ndidi in the centre of the park.
Luke Thomas keeps his place at left-back ahead of former Saints man Ryan Bertrand, who does not make the squad, with Timothy Castagne, Jonny Evans, and Caglar Soyuncu forming the rest of the back-line.
City (4-2-3-1): Schmeichel; Castagne, Evans, Soyuncu, Thomas; Ndidi, Soumare; Lookman, Maddison, Barnes; Vardy.
Subs: Ward, Amartey, Vestergaard, Choudhury, Dewsbury-Hall, Albrighton, Perez, Iheanacho, Daka.
