Ralf Ragnick has played down the possibility of an influx of January additions at Manchester United amid reports he will be given a £100million budget in the upcoming transfer window.

The German boss was officially unveiled as United’s new interim boss on Friday as he spoke to the media for the first time.

Rangnick will be in the dugout against Crystal Palace on Sunday as his Old Trafford reign gets underway.

It’s been claimed the 63-year-old is set to be given £100m to play with to add quality reinforcements next month.

But the former RB Leipzig boss poured cold water over a significant splurge in January as the winter period is notoriously hard to do business in.

He said: “We haven’t spoken about new players, it’s not the time to think about new players. We have to get to know the players we have currently: the squad is definitely not too small.

“Maybe after Christmas, there will be a time to talk about possible transfers in the winter. In my experience, winter is not the time for sustainable transfers. It will be difficult in the winter.”

But Rangnick’s assessment of United’s performance against Arsenal in the 3-2 win suggests otherwise as he expressed concern at his side’s struggles in defence, which have plagued them all season, as well as their lack of balance across the pitch.

He added: “Yesterday we conceded two goals, we needed to score three. That was too much. Those are not the kind of games you need every day. I want to gain control of games.
