Pep Guardiola has taken another swipe at Tottenham chairman Daniel Levy as he confirms Ferran Torres is on the brink of joining Barcelona.
Torres hasn’t featured since October after being sidelined following a metatarsal injury sustained while on international duty with Spain in the Nations League Finals.
As Guardiola confirmed the news of the 21-year-old’s imminent departure, the Spanish manager seemingly couldn’t help but aim a pointed remark in the direction of Tottenham’s Levy who refused to allow Harry Kane to join City in the summer.
“I want happiness in my players,” Guardiola admitted. “If you are not happy, you have to leave. We are not a club where presidents and CEOs say ‘no you have to stay’.
“The players and clubs have to agree, this is business, but if the player wants to leave, they go.
“The career for a football player is short. If he wants to leave, and the clubs have an agreement, I am happy for him.
Guardiola’s stance of granting his players their wish of joining another club is a contrasting one to that of Levy who denied Kane a move to City in a drawn-out transfer saga which dominated the headlines this summer.
Despite Kane’s apparent desire to join City in order to satisfy his cravings for silverware, Levy stood firm and refused to negotiate, a play which clearly irked Guardiola.
