Jurgen Klopp has confirmed Ibrahima Konate is back in training ahead of the clash vs Wolves while Darwin Nunez is also in contention for Liverpool.
Konate has been out of action since suffering a hamstring injury in the FA Cup defeat to Brighton at the end of January. The French centre-back has missed Liverpool’s last five matches but is now available again for selection.
Questions have been asked of Liverpool’s defence while Konate has been absent, with Joe Gomez doing little to cement his place alongside Virgil van Dijk. Gomez was one of the main players to be criticised after the 5-2 defeat to Real Madrid last week and missed the 0-0 draw with Crystal Palace on Saturday.
Joel Matip was back in the heart of the defence with Van Dijk for the clash at Selhurst Park and will likely keep his place while Konate gets up to speed, with Gomez still ruled out. The Reds welcome Wolves on Wednesday in the Premier League – the fourth meeting between the sides since the turn of the year.
Striker Nunez was also absent for the goalless draw with Palace but has been training again prior to the visit of Wolves to Anfield. Liverpool do still have a number of players sidelined, however, in what has been another nightmare campaign for injuries.
Speaking at a press conference on Tuesday, Klopp gave an injury update and told reporters: “Thiago is in rehab. Luis [Diaz] I watched half an hour of a rehab session on the pitch, doing shooting, moving, really good but not in team training yet.
