EPL clubs agree to withdraw gambling sponsorship from shirts

THE WILL NEWS

Premier League football clubs in England have agreed to cease displaying gambling sponsorship on the front of their matchday shirts by the start of the 2026/2027 season.

The decision has granted eight top-flight clubs, including Everton, Newcastle United, and West Ham, up to three years to “transition away.” This landmark decision was reached after consultation between the EPL, the clubs, and the UK government.

In a statement released on Friday, the EPL announced: “Premier League clubs have today collectively agreed to withdraw gambling sponsorship from the front of clubs’ matchday shirts, becoming the first sports league in the UK to take such a measure voluntarily in order to reduce gambling advertising.”

The league is also working with other sports to develop a new code for responsible gambling sponsorship. The announcement is a response to the government’s ongoing review of current gambling legislation.
