Chelsea coach Anthony Barry 'will finally join Bayern Munich'

DAILY MAIL

Chelsea and Bayern Munich have finally reached an agreement for the Blues’ first team coach Anthony Barry to move to the German giants, according to reports.

Bayern appointed Thomas Tuchel as their new manager last month, and the former Chelsea boss revealed at his opening press conference that he wanted Barry alongside him in the dugout after they worked together at Stamford Bridge.

Barry informed Chelsea of his desire to be reunited with Tuchel, but the two clubs could not initially reach an agreement, and Barry was asked to stay away from the training ground while discussions continued.

Following weeks of negotiations, Bayern have now agreed to pay Chelsea close to £1m in compensation to bring Barry to Germany, as reported by The Athletic.

Chelsea and Bayern were both on the same side of the Champions League draw, and it is understood that a potential semi-final meeting may have played a part in Barry’s delayed departure from the west London club.

However, Frank Lampard’s side were knocked out by Real Madrid on Tuesday, with Bayern exiting at the hands of Manchester City the following day, and Barry is now set to head to Munich.

Barry’s imminent departure is a blow for Chelsea given how highly-rated he is by the club.

He arrived as an assistant coach in 2020 and worked under Lampard, Tuchel and Graham Potter, with his work on set-pieces catching the eye of his peers.

Tuchel was sacked by Chelsea in September, but will now work with Barry once more less than a year later.

Barry will leave Chelsea following a dismal campaign for the club that has seen them drop into the bottom half of the table.
