Brentford are lining up a move for Liverpool goalkeeper Caoimhin Kelleher, according to reports – with a potential Manchester United move for David Raya set to begin a transfer domino effect.
Raya has been heavily linked with United over previous months, with reports in January claiming that manager Erik ten Hag was considering the Spaniard as a replacement or competition for David de Gea.
Brentford boss Thomas Frank revealed in the same month that the goalkeeper had rejected two contract offers, and could not confirm whether his long-term future will involve the Bees.
The Spaniard stated in April his desire to play Champions League football, and that is something United will hope they can offer him if they finish the season strongly.
Speaking on Wrexham goalkeeper Mark Howard’s Yours, Mine, Away! podcast (quotes via Manchester Evening News), he said: “Obviously it’s nice to hear that clubs are after you and asking about you and looking for you.
“These clubs are the biggest in the world and every player wants to play for these clubs and everything.
“I want to push myself to the highest level to the Champions League, the Europa League and to win those trophies. I want to experience that and I’m at that stage in my footballing career.”
Now, according to a new report, Brentford are preparing for Raya’s potential departure – by expressing interest in a Liverpool player.
Brentford ‘keen on Caoimhin Kelleher’
The Sun claim that Kelleher, who is competing to become Republic Ireland’s number one goalkeeper, wants to play more first team football having been restricted to featuring in cup competitions throughout his time at Anfield.
And it is being reported that the Bees have identified Kelleher as their new number one, should Raya depart for Old Trafford at the end of the season.
