Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola hasn’t established himself as one of the greatest managers of all time by celebrating prematurely, a trait he’s trying to instil in his treble-chasers.
That’s after it emerged the former Barcelona and Bayern Munich boss ‘confiscated 60 bottles of champagne’ the squad had on standby following their recent 4-0 win over Real Madrid. The second leg of their Champions League semi-final was a raging success that sealed a 5-1 aggregate win, but Guardiola was eager to see his stars keep their eyes on the prizes to come.
The Daily Mail reported City’s chief ordered the bubbly be removed from the dressing room after it was placed their on accident by hospitality staff. Guardiola didn’t want his players to let their hair down until after sealing their first title of a possible three, with deciders in the Champions League and FA Cup still to come.
In hindsight, City’s stars may as well have uncorked in midweek considering they didn’t have to kick another ball before sealing a fifth Premier League title in six seasons. Arsenal‘s 1-0 defeat at Nottingham Forest on Saturday put Guardiola & Co. beyond their reach, with Mikel Arteta‘s team having given up an eight-point lead only for City to clinch the crown with three games to spare.
The three-peat champions finally popped the bottles on Saturday after footage emerged of Guardiola and his players revelling in yet another Premier League trophy win.
