David Beckham has released a statement following the ruthless sacking of Phil Neville at Inter Miami.

The Miami-based side announced on Thursday that they had parted company with Neville amid a string of poor results in the MLS.

Under Neville, Inter Miami lost 10 of their 15 games as they sit in last place in the Eastern Conference.

They’ve lost their last four MLS matches, but are still in the US Open Cup. Though Beckham has prioritised the MLS.

Inter Miami’s 1-0 defeat at home to New York Red Bulls was the final straw, with the 48-year-old opting to sack his former Manchester United teammate.

He’s spoken out about the ‘tough decision’ to relieve Neville of his duties at the club in a statement released online.

“Phil has made a real contribution to the culture of our club with his qualities as a leader and knowledge as a coach,” Beckham said following Neville’s departure.

“Sometimes in this game we have to make the toughest decisions and sadly we feel the time is right to make a change.”
