Manchester United face a race against time to get rid of Mason Greenwood – or face losing out on millions.

The club announced on Monday that Greenwood, 21, will not be returning to Old Trafford after the outcome of the internal investigation was released.

Greenwood hasn’t played a professional game of football since January 2022 after he was suspended by Manchester United and the following internal investigation into his reintegration to the first team has been concluded, meaning Greenwood won’t feature for the club again.

And The Sun report how this has left United in a race against time to either find a loan move or permanent transfer for Greenwood before the end of the transfer window.

Europe’s top five leagues will all see their transfer windows close on Friday, September 1, with the Premier League’s 11pm deadline loosely followed around the continent corresponding to the different time zones.

But should the England international fail to find a new club in Europe, the Saudi Pro League transfer window remains open almost three weeks later, closing on September 20, amid the ludicrous spending the Gulf States has shelled out so far this summer.

Another potential destination for Greenwood could be to join former team-mate Fred in Turkey, where the transfer window closes on September 15.

It’s been reported that Greenwood previously found himself in discussions between United and Atalanta as a potential makeweight in the £70million Rasmus Hojlund transfer.

While two unnamed Championship sides reportedly held discussions over signing Greenwood on a loan deal before deciding not to follow up their interest.
