Across the nine-month Manchester United takeover process, Qatari hopeful Sheikh Jassim bin Hamad Al Thani has reportedly identified multiple dream transfer targets should he become owner. But that doesn’t seem to be the case as the Glazers continue to dig in their heels over a potential sale.
Sheikh Jassim’s interest in buying United has unsurprisingly come with mass speculation regarding the blockbuster names his riches could lure to Old Trafford.
Neymar and Kylian Mbappe have been two footballing goliaths linked with a sensational move to United if Sheikh Jassim enters control.
The national ties with PSG owners Qatar Sports Investments have led to suggestions that United could swoop for Mbappe if a takeover is complete before his contract expires next summer.
But a report squashing that rumour has emerged, insisting Sheikh Jassim is solely interested in beating Sir Jim Ratcliffe and the Glazers’ minority investment options to a takeover.
According to Sky Sports, Sheikh Jassim has never identified transfer targets or discussed potential signings at Old Trafford while his takeover hopes remain in the air.
But the report adds that United’s summer transfer window would’ve looked different if the Qatari bid replaced the Glazers at the helm and cleared the club’s debt as vowed.
