Manchester United and old rivals Arsenal delivered a four-goal thriller at the Emirates on Super Sunday.
Former Premier League referee Mike Dean has added his voice to the controversial Manchester United goal scored against Arsenal at the Emirates.
Dean has expressed sympathy with United manager Erik Ten Hag who was livid with the decision to disallow Alejandro Garnacho’s goal for the Reds.
Garnacho came off the bench to score what seemed like a late winner in the explosive clash against the Gunners on Sunday.
The youngster slotted home after brilliant work from debutante Rasmus Hojlund and Casemiro.
But the goal would be disallowed by the VAR for an offside which proved costly for the Red Devils.
Arsenal survived the scare and went on to add two late goals thanks to Declan Rice and Gabriel Jesus to thrash United 3-1.
“It’s not offside. [It’s the] Wrong angle,” the Dutch manager told Sky Sports moments after the game.
Dean agrees, but sympathises with Ten Hag
In his reaction, former Premier League referee, Dean, felt pity for the United boss while agreeing that the VAR angle was anything but ideal.
“It is very tight. I can understand why the assistant kept his flag down,” Dean said per Mirror. “At first glance, I thought it was offside.
“You can’t fault the technology, they put the lines in the right place. I understand where the manager is coming from because the angle isn’t ideal, but we have the technology in the hub to put the lines in the right position.”
