MANCHESTER EVENING NEWS

Pep Guardiola confirmed that Manchester City have suffered another injury blow ahead of their game with West Ham.

The Blues are already without Kevin De Bruyne after he picked up a serious injury in the opening Premier League game, and John Stones and Jack Grealish have failed to recover from their issues in time to be available for the trip to the London Stadium. On top of that, Mateo Kovacic picked up a problem during the international break and will also be unavailable.

Guardiola, back himself after undergoing back surgery that saw him miss the wins over Sheffield United and Fulham, did not see either of the three issues as serious and said there could be some back in time for the Champions League game at home on Tuesday to Red Star Belgrade. However, each will miss the West Ham match to leave Guardiola with a selection headache.

“Both are injured for tomorrow,” he said. “I don’t know for Red Star. Step by step. The injury for Jack is muscular but has an incredible knock for his knee and the damage is there. John is better but still has issues.”

“We have problems with injuries, we miss them, but it is what it is. I always think the season starts right now, the first international break is over, the kids are back to school and the family routine is back.
