Liverpool forward Mohamed Salah’s Saudi Arabia transfer saga was arguably the biggest of any in the Premier League over the summer window. A deadline day bid of £150m from Saudi Pro league club Al-Ittihad caused chaos on social media, with supporters and the media both unsure how Liverpool would react.
However, it didn’t take long for the Reds to decline the offer, but there were concerns about the Saudi club going back in with an improved offer after the English window shut, with some reports claiming that the bid could become £200m. And whilst it did not eventually get to that stage, they now have a new opportunity to bring the Egyptian international over to the fastest-growing league in the world.
As he enters the final 18 months of his contract at Anfield, all eyes will be on Salah and Liverpool to see how they react over the January window when the new year rolls around. So, with that being said, we’ve has now rounded up everything that has been reported on Jurgen Klopp’s main man ahead of the winter window.
According to transfer guru Fabrizio Romano, Liverpool’s determination to hold on to Salah is a top priority, and has been told that the club won’t allow the star to leave ‘under any circumstances’. Whether that means they’re prepared for an even greater bid in the range of £200m is unclear, but with just 12 months left on his contract at the end of the season, it means that they’ll either sink or swim with the decisions they make in this upcoming window.
Speaking on livestreaming platform Kick a few days ago, he said: “In January I see him staying, absolutely. I see him staying, I see Mo Salah being a part of the Liverpool project. Absolutely, nothing to mention on that. I don’t think anything can happen in the January transfer window.
“At the moment the message from Liverpool is the same as we had in the summer, Liverpool want to count on Mo Salah, he’s an absolutely crucial player for them.
“Remember that when they received important approaches from Mo Salah in the summer, in the final days of the European transfer market Saudi offered a package worth around £150m, an incredible amount of money for Mo Salah, and in that case, Liverpool said no, so I don’t see them selling the player in the middle of the season, a very important season for Liverpool.
“They are still there fighting to win the Premier League, doing very well in the Europa League, so it’s a positive season for Liverpool. I don’t see them ruining it by selling Mo Salah in January. In the summer we will see, but in January I think it will be really complicated.”
Jurgen Klopp’s admission
The Reds manager has always remained adamant that Salah wouldn’t leave his side. After a somewhat low key introduction into life in England during an underwhelming spell with Chelsea earlier in his career, it would be safe to say not many onlookers could have predicted the impact Salah has made during his time with Liverpool.
The Egypt star is rapidly approaching a double century of goals for the club after scoring 12 goals in just 17 appearances so far this season. Salah continues to enjoy the full support of his manager, with Klopp hailing forward as ‘a world class player’.
