Pedro Neto’s first words after joining Chelsea as Wolves issue parting injury warning

Pedro Neto has emphasized that he has dedicated his entire career to reaching Chelsea, following his £54 million transfer to Stamford Bridge.

Neto, who has spent the last five years at Wolves, earned accolades as the club’s Players’ Player of the Season and Supporters’ Player of the Season in 2021. He has now committed to a seven-year contract with Chelsea.

The 24-year-old is expected to make his debut in Chelsea’s Premier League opener against Manchester City next Saturday. His signing marks Chelsea’s ninth of the summer and their most expensive acquisition this year.

Neto joined Wolves after stints with Braga and Lazio, where he won the Coppa Italia in 2019. He views his move to Chelsea as a significant step forward, despite the club’s challenging pre-season.

“I’m really grateful to have joined this club,” Neto said after his transfer was finalized on Sunday. “I’ve worked very hard throughout my career to get here, and I’m excited to step onto the pitch in this shirt.”

Chelsea announced that Neto will join Enzo Maresca’s squad in the coming days. After winning just one pre-season match ahead of Sunday’s game against Inter Milan, Neto’s arrival provides a timely boost.

In a statement, the club said: “Chelsea is delighted to confirm the signing of Portugal international Pedro Neto from Wolverhampton Wanderers. Pedro has signed a seven-year contract and will begin training with his new teammates at Cobham in the coming days.”
