Manchester City superstar Erling Haaland has suggested he would support a player strike because of the packed football schedule.
Haaland’s team-mate Rodri revealed last month how leading players had discussed going on strike unless the number of games they were forced to play was reduced. Rodri has subsequently damaged his knee ligaments and will miss the rest of the season.
Now Haaland has weighed into the debate – and told the sport’s bosses there is too much football. Haaland admits he started the new season feeling fit and fresh, because he wasn’t involved in the Euros like most of his colleagues and rivals were.
And in a warning to the likes of FIFA, UEFA and the Premier League, Haaland insists leading players have to be given more time off from the constant churn of competition. Haaland is playing in the revamped Champions League this season, which has more games, and will also take part in the new FIFA Club World Cup with Man City next summer.
Haaland, who will captain Norway in their clash with Slovenia tomorrow (Thursday), said: “It was very positive (resting in the summer), and you can see that on the pitch. I have much more energy, both on and off the pitch. My head is more rested.
