Mohamed Salah saved the day as Liverpool fought back from behind twice in a dramatic 2-2 encounter with Arsenal, who were left frustrated despite a strong start.
The result sees Liverpool drop to second in the Premier League table, with Manchester City now at the top of the table,
Arsenal seized control early in the match. In the 9th minute, Bukayo Saka capitalised on a well-placed pass into Liverpool’s box, expertly firing the ball into the top right corner to give Arsenal an early lead.
Liverpool responded quickly, with Salah’s volley from the edge of the box in the 15th minute almost equalising, but it flew just wide.
Liverpool didn’t take long to level the score. Virgil van Dijk pounced on a rebound in the 18th minute, heading the ball into the bottom right corner to make it 1-1.
Arsenal regained momentum, but their appeals for a penalty in the 32nd minute, following Gabriel Martinelli’s tumble in the box, were dismissed after a brief VAR check by referee Anthony Taylor.
Arsenal pushed forward once more and found success in the 43rd minute when Declan Rice delivered a free-kick into the box.
Mikel Merino connected with a powerful header from close range, sending the ball into the net to restore Arsenal’s lead at 2-1.
The goal was subjected to a VAR check for possible offside, but Taylor ultimately ruled in favour of Arsenal, allowing the goal to stand.
Liverpool, however, remained undeterred. In the 81st minute, Salah demonstrated his poise, connecting with a loose ball in the box and firing a precise shot into the bottom left corner, pulling Liverpool level at 2-2.
Arsenal’s Gabriel Jesus had a chance to steal the win in the 88th minute, but his effort was brilliantly saved by Caoimhin Kelleher, who deflected the ball off the crossbar.
