Obi Cubana’s 72-year-old mother passed away in December 2020 but her burial ceremony coincides with WizKid’s 31st birthday on Friday.
The unrestrained display of cash by nightlife baron and his friends have got Nigerians, especially those on social media reacting endlessly to the lavish carousal that that has been on for days at the Obi Cubana’s Oba town in Anambra.
Unfortunately for the supporters of the Starboy, the “Doings in Oba” has snatched all the attention of showbiz lovers, making scarce reckoning for their idol’s celebration.
A few days before Machala’s birthday, his fans took to social media to celebrate him in advance and also celebrate his recent top 100 billboard debut, which marked him as the first Nigerian artist to achieve that feat in a long while.
However, on the actual day of the Starboy’s birthday the social media became all about the “Doings” in #Oba”.
Yet, some loyal Wizkid FC members who didn’t “lose focus” celebrated the Grammy winner but were eventually overthrown from the limelight when the burial event at Oba commenced properly online.
“Happy Birthday to Wizkid, the Greatest African Artiste of All time! #WizkidAt31,” @morrisBaker_ tweeted.
Meanwhile, the mundane display of cash the Oba event continues to generate hot takes from Nigerians who continue to offer differing opinions on the conduct.
While many felt the guest in attendance should be investigated by the EFCC, others felt the businessmen should not pose a threat if they choose to spend lavishly.
“Federal Government should please leave Obi Cubana and Cubana Chief Priest alone. It’s their money and they have the right to spend it as they wish. #obicubana #lagostraffic,” @itori261 tweeted.
Another group of Nigerians say the host and his friends could have opted to emplace some charitable project in the rustic Oba community as a legacy for his other rather than “wasting money” on vanity.
The Oba community does not have tarred roads, neither is there a good hospital to cater to local needs.
“One day we will talk about hw all d wealth lavished @ #obicubana mother’s burial cud hv bn used 2 build a foundation 4 d ppl of d community 2 benefit frm 4 generations.
“Bt let it nt b lyk we are hating, let the doings continue while I listen to Davido Dbanj Phyno and patoranking,” @tirednigeria tweeted.
Asides other prominent businessmen in attendance, the likes of Davido, Patoranking, Phyno and D’Banj were also present at the event.
