Piers Morgan has revealed that he caught Covid at the Euro 2020 final at Wembley Stadium.
The former Good Morning Britain host, 56, believes he caught the virus after crowds of ticketless fans swarmed the venue.
Piers has had both doses of theAstraZeneca vaccine, but began to have symptoms two days after the game, which included a raging fever, chills and violent coughing and sneezing fits.
He said it was the “roughest I’ve felt” from an illness in his adult life.
Piers said he believes he caught the Delta coronavirus variant a fortnight ago at the final, which saw Italy beat the England squad after the game went to penalties.
“My confidence that the event would be ‘covid safe’ had disintegrated,” Piers said. “It was turning into an unregulated free-for-all.”
After he began experiencing symptoms, Piers took a lateral flow test that came back positive and a PCR test confirmed the result.
He suffered fever, cold sweats, coughing, sneezing and “strange aches”.
Piers has now recovered from his symptoms, but he says his voice has a low pitch.
He told the Mail on Sunday: “My voice now sounds like Barry White, though I couldn’t feel less like a Walrus of Love.”
Piers added: “This is definitely the roughest I’ve felt from any illness in my adult life, BUT, as I slowly come out the other side, coughing and spluttering.”
