Nigerian singer, Habeeb Okikiola, popularly known as Portable, in an attempt to evade arrest by operatives of the Lagos State Police Command on Tuesday, jumped a gate.
The singer was taken into custody following a complaint filed by a car dealer to whom he owed money.
Portable had initiated the purchase of a N27 million G-Wagon from the dealer, making an initial payment and promising to settle the remaining amount later.
In a video of his arrest that circulated on social media, the singer dressed in a white and black stripe shirt standing alongside eight other people, could be seen having a friendly conversation with the officers who came for him.
After he was shown a warrant of arrest by the officers, the singer responded, โNo problem, no problem Oga mi,โ while pacing around.
He then turned to a man, believed to be his friend assuring him. In a twinkle of an eye, the singer climbed over a gate close by, taking to his heels.
In another video, he was seen being bundled by four police operatives into a standby vehicle.
Confirming his arrest, the state Police Public Relations Officer, Benjamin Hundeyin, said, โYes, Portable has been arrested. He bought G-Wagon for N27m, paid N13m, and refused to pay the rest, claiming the vehicle was bad. We arrested him today.โ
In 2023, the singer was on the wrong side of the law after he was arrested and arraigned over allegations of assault on an ex-signee.
The police had asked the โZazoo Zehhโ crooner to turn himself in following allegations of assault but didnโt until he was picked up at his Ota residence.
Portable, notorious for his numerous controversies, hit stardom with his hit single, โZazuuโ which featured rapper, Olamide in 2021.
