Fear grips Uromi as residents flee after mob lynching of 16 travellers

Governor Monday Okpebholo has assured that justice will be served after 16 travellers were lynched in Uromi, Edo State, prompting mass evacuations by fearful residents. The Arewa Consultative Forum (ACF) has called for an independent judicial probe, while locals claim the attack stemmed from suspicions that the travellers were armed kidnappers

Communities along Old Ilushi Road, Opere, and Good Will Junction in Uromi, Edo State, have been deserted following the lynching of 16 travellers by a mob last Thursday. Residents fear reprisals and arrests by security operatives, with many fleeing to neighboring towns and abandoning their farms.

Governor Monday Okpebholo has vowed justice for the victims, as 14 suspects have been arrested and may be transferred to Abuja for further interrogation.
