Labour Party submits petition to contest Tinubu’s election win

GUARDIAN NG

Labour Party (LP) has filed a petition at the Election Petition Tribunal in Abuja, contesting the declaration of Bola Tinubu of the All Progressives Congress (APC), as the winner of the presidential election.

The respondents in the petition are president-elect Tinubu, his running mate Senator Kashim Shettima, APC, and Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

Tinubu was declared the winner of the 2023 presidential election after polling 8,794,726 votes.

Atiku Abubakar of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) finished second with 6,984,520 votes and Obi was third with 6,101,533 votes.

But the result of the presidential election has since been rejected by some of the parties.

The petitioners are asking the tribunal to declare that Tinubu was not duly elected by a majority of the lawful votes cast at the election.

They want an order mandating INEC to retrieve the certificate of return issued to Tinubu, the APC candidate, and issue a fresh one to Obi.
