TUC warns NLC protest may incite anarchy amid economic crisis

PUNCH

The Trade Union Congress (TUC) has cautioned against the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) planned protest on February 27 and 28, suggesting it could lead to anarchy.

Dr. Tommy Etim, TUC’s Deputy President, emphasized the nation’s volatility due to prevailing hunger. Etim’s remarks were made in an interview with Saturday PUNCH.

The protest aims to address the escalating hardship triggered by fuel subsidy removal and currency depreciation.

Rising inflation and exorbitant food prices exacerbate citizens’ plight, spurring demands for economic reforms.

Despite NLC’s insistence on the protest, TUC refrains from participation, alleging unilateral decisions by NLC’s President, Joe Ajaero.

Etim urges strategic engagement over protests, fearing chaos and potential revolution due to widespread hunger.

NLC remains resolute on the protest, indicating ongoing communication with TUC.

TUC emphasizes the necessity of unity in addressing workers’ concerns and warns against divisive actions amid national challenges.
