Nigeria’s Department of State Security (DSS) detained two Binance employees on Monday night in Abuja as part of investigations into the crypto exchange’s operations in the country, according to an official familiar with the probe.
The detained individuals include an American and a British citizen, with their passports confiscated by authorities, as reported by sources knowledgeable about the situation. However, officials have not disclosed the reasons behind the detentions, and it remains uncertain whether any charges have been filed under Nigerian law.
Rume Ophi, executive secretary of the Stakeholders in Blockchain Technology Association of Nigeria, was informed about the DSS’ raid on Binance by contacts within the company, according to DL News.
Binance has not yet responded to requests for comment from DL News regarding the situation.
