Justice James Omotosho of the Federal High Court in Abuja, on Monday, dismissed the fundamental human rights suit filed by the detained leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra, Nnamdi Kanu, against the Federal Government.
The suit filed by Nnamdi Kanu, leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), against the Federal Republic of Nigeria and others has been dismissed by a judge for lacking merit.
Kanu had alleged that his rights were violated while in detention at the Department of State Services (DSS) facility, including the seizure of legal documents and denial of access to his lawyers.
The Federal Government and the DSS filed counter affidavits denying Kanu’s allegations, with the DSS stating that Kanu was treated with respect and allowed to consult with his lawyers in a comfortable facility.
The judge found no evidence to support Kanu’s claims of rights violation and dismissed the suit, with Kanu’s demands for damages and an injunction also rejected.
