The Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) has reportedly intercepted containers carrying arms and ammunition worth an estimated N13.9 billion, according to Comptroller-General Adewale Adeniyi.
The interception occurred at the Onne Port in Rivers State, where nine containers were discovered containing various offensive items, including arms, ammunition, illicit drugs, and second-hand clothes.
The Comptroller-General disclosed this information to journalists on Monday, emphasizing the NCS’s commitment to curbing the illegal importation of prohibited items into the country.
This operation serves as a significant blow to the smuggling of weapons and contraband into Nigeria, demonstrating the effectiveness of the Customs Service’s efforts to maintain security and stability.
