List of world leaders congratulating Donald Trump

NEWSWEEK

Leaders across the world have congratulated Donald Trump on becoming the 47th President of the United States on Wednesday.

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer were among the first to express their support for Donald Trump on his election victory.

A new president in the White House has far-reaching effects, not only within the United States but across the globe, as shifts in leadership often reshape foreign policy and redefine America’s relationships with both allies and adversaries.

Here is a full list of the major world leaders who have congratulated the President so far and what they said.

Israel

In his statement published from his X account, formerly known as Twitter, Netanyahu described Trump’s victory as “history’s greatest comeback” stating that the Republican win represented a “new beginning for America, a powerful recommitment to the great alliance between Israel and America.”

The Israeli leader has previously had a difficult relationship with former-President Joe Biden over support for Israel’s military operations in Gaza and Lebanon.

United Kingdom
UK Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer issued a statement from his X account early on Wednesday before the official result had been declared.

“Congratulations President-elect Trump on your historic election victory. I look forward to working with you in the years ahead,” said Starmer.

“As the closest of allies, we stand shoulder to shoulder in defence of our shared values of freedom, democracy and enterprise. From growth and security to innovation and tech, I know that the UK-US special relationship will continue to prosper on both sides of the Atlantic for years to come.”

Starmer’s Labour Party run government is more politically aligned with the Democrats than the Republicans, so Trump’s victory could present diplomatic challenges to the U.K.

Ukraine
President Volodymyr Zelensky of Ukraine wrote from his X account, “I appreciate President Donald Trump’s commitment to the ‘peace through strength’ approach in global affairs. This is exactly the principle that can practically bring just peace in Ukraine closer.”

Zelensky and Trump have not always seen eye-to-eye, particularly over the issue of U.S. financial and military support for Ukraine’s war against Russia.

European Union
European Council President Charles Michel wrote on X that “as allies and friends, the EU looks forward to continuing our constructive cooperation.”

“The EU will pursue its course in line with the strategic agenda as a strong, united, competitive, and sovereign partner while defending the rules-based multilateral system,” Michel said.

France
France’s President Emmanuel Macron wrote on X he was “ready to work together just as we knew how to do during four years. With your convictions and with mine. With respect and ambition. For more peace and prosperity.”

Italy
In a post on X, Italy’s Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni offered trump the “most sincere congratulations” and said Italy and the United States had an “unshakable alliance.”

“It is a strategic bond, which I am certain we will now strengthen even further,” she said.

Turkey
Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan also congratulated the former U.S. president on X.

“I hope that Turkey-US relations will strengthen, that regional and global crises and wars, especially the Palestinian issue and the Russia-Ukraine war, will come to an end. I believe that more efforts will be made for a more just world.”

Erdogan has been a strong Israel critic who previously enjoyed friendly relations with Trump.

Egypt
From Egypt, President Abdel-Fattah el-Sissi wished Trump via X “the best of luck and success in achieving the interests of the American people.”

“I look forward to together establish peace and maintain regional stability and bolster strategic ties between Egypt and the United States,” he wrote.

Qatar
Emir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al-Thani’s said on X that he looked forward to “working together again … in promoting security and stability both in the region and globally.”

Al-Thani’s nation is a mediator for a truce in Gaza and hosts the largest U.S. military base in the region.

Netherlands
Prime Minister Dick Schoof said on X that he looked forward to “close cooperation on shared interests.”

Austria
Chancellor Karl Nehammer wrote on X that Austria and the U.S. could look forward “to further expanding and strengthening our trans-Atlantic relations to successfully address global challenges together.”

Hungary
Prime Minister Viktor Orban, a close Trump ally, echoes Israel’s Netanyahu by describing the victory as “the biggest comeback in U.S. political history” and “a much needed victory for the World.”
