BENUE STATE, Nigeria — Horror and terror continue in Nigeria, where 48 Christians were reportedly slain in the nation’s Benue State between Nov. 24 and Dec. 1, with women and children included among the slaughtered.
Between November 24 and December 1, armed militants conducted coordinated attacks that transformed peaceful rural communities into scenes of unimaginable carnage. On December 1, eighteen Christians were ambushed and killed while traveling to church, their sacred journey tragically interrupted by gunmen intent on sowing terror.
Just days earlier, on November 25, hundreds of heavily armed herdsmen stormed Logo and Katsina-Ala counties, systematically murdering 30 residents in what local officials describe as a calculated assault targeting Christian communities.
Benjamin Uzenda, a former local government council member, provided chilling details of the attacks. “The Fulani herdsmen, armed with deadly weapons, shot sporadically at Christians, butchered victims with machetes, and destroyed crops on farmlands,” he told reporters.
This is not an isolated incident but part of a disturbing pattern of religious persecution that has transformed Nigeria into the most dangerous place in the world to be a Christian. International watchdog organizations paint an even more alarming picture. Open Doors’ 2024 World Watch List reveals that over 82% of Christians killed globally for their faith were murdered in Nigeria.
Jeff King, president of International Christian Concern, offers a stark assessment. “Most Americans have no idea what’s happening in Nigeria,” King said. “For the last 20 years, approximately 100,000 Christians have been murdered, and 3.5 million have been displaced from their lands, with the government doing virtually nothing to stop it.”
Nigerian Senator Emmanuel Udende has publicly condemned these attacks, describing them as a direct threat to national security and socio-economic stability. Local police claim to be investigating, but a history of impunity suggests these promises may be hollow.
