Federal Government declares public holidays for Christmas, Boxing Day, and New Year

The Federal Government has officially declared Wednesday, December 25, Thursday, December 26, 2024, and Wednesday, January 1, 2025, as public holidays to celebrate Christmas, Boxing Day, and the New Year respectively.

This announcement was confirmed by the Minister of Interior, Dr. Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, in a statement released on Monday in Abuja. The Ministry’s Permanent Secretary, Dr. Magdalene Ajani, made the declaration on behalf of the Federal Government.

In his statement, Dr. Tunji-Ojo extended warm greetings to all Nigerians, urging them to reflect on the values of love, peace, and unity that the festive season represents as they celebrate with their families and loved ones. He emphasized that the Christmas season provides an opportunity for spiritual reflection and national renewal, while calling for an embrace of kindness and goodwill across all communities.

“As we celebrate the birth of Jesus, the Prince of Peace, let us demonstrate kindness and extend goodwill to one another, irrespective of our differences,” said Dr. Tunji-Ojo.
