Police to begin enforcement of third-party insurance for vehicles on February 1

Kayode Egbetokun, the Inspector-General of Police (IGP), has confirmed that the enforcement of third-party insurance for vehicles will begin on February 1, 2025. This announcement was made on Friday in Abuja during a meeting with officials from the National Insurance Commission (NAICOM), led by the Commission’s Insurance Commissioner, Olusegun Ayo Omosehin.

In a statement issued by Force Spokesperson, Muyiwa Adejobi, Omosehin sought the support of the Nigeria Police Force (NPF) to ensure nationwide compliance with the compulsory third-party insurance law, which aims to provide significant benefits for all road users.

The IGP emphasized the importance of vehicle owners obtaining third-party insurance, highlighting the role it plays in road safety and legal compliance. Egbetokun also reiterated that the enforcement of the relevant laws will commence on February 1, 2025, urging all vehicle owners to ensure they have the necessary insurance coverage before the start of the enforcement period.
