Philadelphia, PA – A Learjet crashed near a shopping center in Northeast Philadelphia on Friday night, resulting in multiple casualties and triggering a massive fireball that engulfed a stretch of road in flames, authorities confirmed.
The crash occurred around 6:30 p.m. near Cottman and Bustleton Avenues, across from Roosevelt Mall, approximately three miles from Northeast Philadelphia Airport. The aircraft was en route to Springfield-Branson National Airport in Missouri when it went down, according to the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA).
Conflicting reports emerged regarding the number of people on board. At 7:47 p.m., the FAA stated that two people were aboard the aircraft. However, at 7:49 p.m., U.S. Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy posted on X (formerly Twitter) that six people were reportedly on board.
