UniAbuja expels 100 students over examination misconduct ▷ Nigeria news

– The University of Abuja has taken a very decisive step against examination misconduct by some of its students

– The institution recently expelled 100 of its students who are both undergraduates and postgraduates

– The school ordered the students to hand over their indentity cards and leave its premises immediately

Following claims of examination misconduct, the University of Abuja has expelled not lees than 100 of its students which comprise 72 undergraduates and 28 post-graduates.

The spokesperson of UniAbuja, Habib Yakoob, revealed that the decision was taken after the institution’s authority considered reports from its central examination misconduct committee, Premium Times reports.

Yakoob, who spoke with journalists on Sunday, December 22, also said that the affected students were ordered to hand over to the authoriy their identity cards and leave the school premises immediately.

Giving the breakdown, he said that 27 of the expelled students were in 400 level, 19 in 300 level, 16 in 200 level, two students are in 100 level, while five are in their 5th, 6th, and 7th sessions.

He explained further that 47 of the students were from Faculty of Science, 23 from Faculty of Management Sciences, 20 from Faculty of Social Sciences, while 10 the belong to other faculties.

Meanwhile, Legit.ng reported that due to the recent controversy over the enrollment of Nigerian lecturers in the Integrated Payroll Information System (IPPIS), the Academic Staff Union of Universities had shelved their planned strike action.

ASUU leadership made the disclosure on Thursday, October 31. The national president of the union, Biodun Ogunyemi, said ASUU took the decision after a plea by lawmakers of the Nigerian Senate over the planned action.

Ogunyemi said the leadership of the union is currently engaging with lawmakers on best ways to address the matter.

He also said that the Senate had promised that all lecturers would be paid whenever other workers are being paid by the federal government.
