Mary Trump Says Uncle Donald Trump More Upset About Twitter Ban Than Losing Election

Mary Trump, a clinical psychologist and the niece of former President Donald Trump, said that she believes her uncle was more upset about being banned from Twitter and forfeiting his high-profile golf tournament than losing the presidential election.

“I think that being banned from Twitter and having the [Professional Golf Association (PGA)] take their tournament away from his golf courses are probably the worst things that have happened to him in the last four years,” Mary Trump told Insider on Thursday.

“How is he managing without Twitter? Because even he must realize that people really aren’t paying attention to him in the same way,” she added.

Donald Trump was permanently banned from Twitter on January 8, two days after a violent mob of his supporters stormed the U.S. Capitol in an effort to overturn the election results. The siege left five people dead, and resulted in the former president’s temporary or permanent suspension from every major social media platform.

Then, on January 10, the PGA announced it would strip Trump National Golf Course in Bedminster, New Jersey, of hosting the 2022 PGA Championship – an event that Trump had spent years lobbying for.

On January 11, New York Times reporter Maggie Haberman tweeted that Donald Trump was “gutted,” and more angry about losing the tournament than going through a second impeachment trial.

“He’s angry about impeachment, people who have spoken to him say. But the reaction to the PGA decision was a different order of magnitude,” Haberman tweeted.

Since losing the election, Donald Trump has maintained a significant presence within the GOP and hinted at a 2024 presidential run.

At this year’s Conservative Political Action Conference (CPAC), the former president was a major talking point, with politicians such as Texas Senator Ted Cruz using his speech to state that “Donald J. Trump ain’t going anywhere.”

“Clearly, this stuff with the Republican Party is helping him because imagine if he didn’t have that. If he had become as irrelevant as every other person who loses an election becomes, then I think his mental state would be much different,” Mary Trump said on Thursday.

However, the former president’s niece said she believes Trump is merely dangling the possibility of another presidential run to maintain “a grip on power.”

“He thinks on some level it’s going to allow him to continue to operate with impunity as he has done his whole life, and also it’s going to allow him to keep grifting money off of people,” she told Insider.

In July, Mary Trump released a highly critical book about Donald Trump and her family titled Too Much and Never Enough: How My Family Created the World’s Most Dangerous Man. It sold over a million copies in the first week.

Mary Trump is currently suing the former president and two of his siblings for fraud, alleging that they swindled her out of tens of millions of dollars in family inheritance money, NBC reported.
