Antonio Rudiger sends message to Kevin De Bruyne after Champions League final injury

Chelsea got their hands on the UEFA Champions League trophy for the second time in their history last night, defeating Manchester City 1-0 at the Estadio do Dragao in Porto.

German international Kai Havertz bagged the only goal of the game, latching onto a Mason Mount through ball before cooly slotting it past Ederson in the 42nd minute.

The Blues then controlled the rest of the match, allowing City just one shot on target in 90 minutes.

The Citizens struggled to create any openings after their midfield talisman Kevin De Bruyne came off injured after a coming together with Antonio Rudiger just before the hour mark.

De Bruyne, who was replaced by Gabriel Jesus, fractured his nose and eye socket and will now face a race against time to be ready for the European Championships this summer.

On the back of this, Rudiger has taken to social media to apologise to the 29-year-old.

“I’m really sorry for De Bruyne’s injury”, the defender posted on Twitter.

“Of course this was not intentional from me – I’ve already been in touch with Kevin personally and I really wish him a speedy recovery and hope we can see him back on the pitch very soon again.”

It was a classy touch from Rudiger, who delivered a colossal performance in Portugal on Saturday night.

The 28-year-old completed three clearances, one tackle and won three aerial duels as the Blues kept their second clean sheet against City this season.

Rudiger will enjoy a short rest before joining up with the German national team ahead of the Euros this summer.

De Bruyne himself had earlier tweeted in the day: “Hi guys just got back from the hospital.

“My diagnosis is Acute nose bone fracture and left orbital fracture. I feel okay now. Still disappointed about yesterday obviously but we will be back.”
