North Korean leader Kim Jong Un announced plans to senior ruling party officials that are intended to bring “tangible change” to the North Korean economy and people’s living conditions, state media said Tuesday.
The efforts come after the North Korean economy suffered from the COVID-19 pandemic, despite Kim’s increasing bid to push the country towards self-reliance.
Sanctions imposed by other countries including the United States, as well as the pandemic and flooding last summer that destroyed crops, have the country facing what Kim called its “worst ever” situation.
